Lessons from The Black Panther

I’m sure you must have heard about The Black Panther Movie, also known as Wakanda.

The buzz for this movie, “no bi here”.

I don’t like action movies oh, they give me a headache when I’m watching them because all I’ll be hearing will just be “Kbish Kbish, Kishaaa”

…but this Black Panther, the buzz on social media was so much, so I carried my two legs to the cinema to go and watch it too.

As usual, I was looking for the business lessons behind this movie.

I saw the marketing strategies behind it, and that’s a epistle for another day, but more interestingly, I saw a business opportunity for you and me.

It is this same business opportunity that made The Black Panther to earn $1 Billion.

Let me explain.

Why does the Black Panther Movie have all this buzz?

One word:

“Representation”

It is Marvel’s first big budget action movie, where the super heroes are blacks.

Even the women featured in the movie were featured as strong, intelligent warriors.

For the first time, people could go to the cinema and watch super heroes who looked like them…and they were A LOT OF PEOPLE.

It might not look like a big deal, but look at what Black Panther has been able to achieve because it catered to the people who have not been properly represented in the media, and this is the big opportunity.

There are so many people who feel left out, and want to associate with people who look like them in the media.

Here’s how it concerns you.

If you look at the content creation industry as a whole, you will discover that a huge percentage of the content we consume on the internet today is being produced by whites.

Do your research, many online courses are produced by white people.

Meanwhile, there’s this entire population of black people, looking to learn from someone who looks like them but they can’t find.

…they can’t find content because we have not been creating content and because of this, we are missing out on the big opportunity in the world market.

I challenge you today to find your voice and to start putting out content.

There are so many black people in Africa and out of Africa who need what you know.

Personally, I know that I have not scratched the surface. there’s still so much more.

This is something that is very close to my heart. I’m just sharing this with you because I’ve seen the opportunities and I want you to see it too.

It’s MASSIVE!!!

We are in the best position to tap into this opportunity.

Like my friend Remi Owadokun will say, It’s too late to be nobody

With Love

Steph
